Welcome: Pizza a "peel"

Ok, so here I was, pawing through the free box at a garage sale this summer, when I found a pizza peel.  It was pretty burned on one side (hence the "free" status), but I thought, I could use this for somethingBy the way, I think my husband hears those words in his nightmares.  Here it is, in its original state.

In my experience, there are few "found" items that are not enhanced by a little spray paint, so I gave it a few coats of gold.  At this point, I was thinking it would make a nice welcome sign for my porch, but my idea hadn't fully taken shape yet.

I cut letters out on my cricut and ran them through my Xyron sticker maker machine.  If you do this, make sure to use the repositionable adhesive.  Then, arrange the letters the way you want them.

When the letters were affixed, I sprayed right over them---sprayed the whole thing brown.

After I removed the letters, I used my trusty gold paint pen to sort of neaten up the edges of the letters and I also gave the whole thing a good sanding.  I wanted just enough of the brown off for a bit of gold to show through.

So now, what do do with the large space under the "Welcome"?  I wanted to be able to keep this sign on my porch and just change a small part of it according to the month or season.
I glued a small painted clothespin to the sign...

And then I took some old CD's (yup, I save everything) and embellished them with holiday themes...here is my "CD" for this month.

As much as I liked my concept, once I put my welcome "peel" out, I still didn't LOVE it.  I was kind of annoyed (it take lots of time for all that paint to dry!) until I remembered a shutter that I had also purchased at a garage sale for $2.  I had intended to do something with the shutter inside, but it ended up that it didn't fit, so the shutter had been sitting in the garage collecting cobwebs.  I took the pizza peel and screwed it into the shutter.  Voila!  The shutter gave it some extra visual weight, and now I can just lean the whole thing against the house by my porch door.
There is a hook above it from which I hung some wooden fall leaves...

And here's a closeup with my turkey:

Whew!  Keep in mind that my porch is very sheltered; if it weren't, I would've added some clear protective seals to the wood and also the CD's.
Also, I get to make tons of little CD's according to the holiday, or season, or mood!  That's nice for a person like me who likes to change things up without a whole lot of work.

I will be joining the linky party at Skip to My Lou's Made by You Mondays  with this project :)

Thanks a lot for stopping by today~Have a wonderful Monday!
