Workout with ScrapFIT and a challenge for you!

My first layout for ScrapFIT:
Workout #49 : Put a banner on it!

I originally intended to make the half circles I cut out of cloth into a banner, but then decided to go triangular.  A trick I use when I want to make triangles is to use either my hexagon punch if I am working with paper, or my hexagon sizzix die if I am working with cloth.  Either way, once you have the shape, you cut it in half, and then cut each side into three triangular shapes.  It certainly doesn't have to be perfect, and a little imperfection adds to the character of your work.  After I had cut the little triangles, I realized I had no way to keep them together to sew them.  I had some twill ribbon that I didn't like the design on, so I flipped it over to the plain side, placed my triangles on it, and sewed them to it.  After, I simply used sharp scissors to trim around the triangles.  I like the effect of the double banner.  Here is a closeup:
I also wanted to highlight my flower---homemade, of course.  For this flower, I used an old stained shirt of my older daughter's.  It already had ruffles on it, so I simply gathered the ruffle into a circle.  That is the bottom, lighter colored base of the flower. The top is simply four circles, each folded into quarters with the points hot glued to the center of the flower.  A button covered by a pearl completes the flower.
So now that you have the explanation behind my layout...will you head on over to ScrapFIT, see how the other design team members interpreted this assignment, and accept this challenge?

  1. What a wonderful LO! I love how the blue banner and flower pop against the more neutral background! Such a great idea to stitch your banner flags to ribbon and then cut it out to shadow the flags! So many inspirational ideas here! ~ Blessings
